Childhood's end
"Written by Arthur C. Clarke and hailed as a revolutionary work of science fiction since its publishing in 1953, Childhood's End follows the peaceful alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious "Overlords", whose arrival begins decades of apparent utopia under indirect alien rule, at the cost of human identity and culture".
I watched this show with my dad, and we found out about it thanks to an add on tv. We saw the trailer and were like "😲 that looks promising!!" So we decided to watch it. It is just 3 episodes, though they last an hour and half I believe. And sometimes it is the longest hour and a half ever.
The idea behind the show is great. It is one of those that make you think after you watch it. But the episodes are so boring! I am sure the book is way better.
We have some known actors as Charles Dance (aka Tywin Lannister), Julian McMahon (Cole from "Charmed"), Mike Vogel (Barbie from "Under the Dome"), or Georgina Haig (Elsa on "Once Upon a Time").
For me it won't be one of those shows I'll remember, but if you like science fiction, give it a try. And also, if you watch the trailer, it is best if you do it here on the blog. If you watch it on YouTube there are BIG spoilers on the suggested videos list 🙈
Emeral City
"Swept up into the eye of a tornado, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale is transported t another world - a mystical land in great peril, where an all-powerfull wizard has forbidden magic and rules over many kingdoms. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you've never seen it before, where lethal warrios roam, wicked witches plot in the shadows and a young girl from Kansas becomes a headstrong heroine who holds the fate of their world in her hands."
I must say I've never been a big fan of "The Wizard of Oz", but I know about the story and what happens. I also found about this show through an add on tv. The trailer is amazing!
It is different from everything I've seen before about this story. It is more dark, more adult. Though there are some little details made on purpose to remind you of the original story.
One of the things I liked the most after watching the first episode is the photography. Wow. Just wow. Even if the plot is weak sometimes, those landscapes and backgrounds make it worth it. Some of them are special effects, but others are real. They filmed a lot of scenes in Dubrovnik (Croatia) and the south of Spain. For example, the inside of the castle/palace we can see on episode 3 is the same place "Game of Thrones" used as Dorne, and Oz is the park Güell in Barcelona.
On this show I've also recognize some actors, both related to Jonathan Rhys Meyers somehow: Oliver Jackson-Cohen (I saw him on "Dracula", a show I started and never finished. He looks waaaaaaaay better on "Emerald City"), and Joely Richardson (Catherine Parr on "The Tudors"). There also is an actress, Ana Ularu, who reminds me a lot of Alexa Chung, especially because of her voice.
This has been the show I've liked the most from all the ones I am mentionning today. Pretty to watch and entertaining. I definitely recommend it. It airs on Fridays on NBC, and so far there are only 3 episodes available.
Aftermath
"The Copelands battle for survival after civilization comes to an apocalyptic end - and they are faced not only with plague - but the rise of supernatural creatures."
My dad saw this show online and downloaded it because it looked interesting, and after watching just one episode you could say it is... different. Weird. A bit wtf 😂
At first it makes you think of "The Walking Dead" or "Fear the Walking Dead". There is a family facing the end of the world, the intro is similar, it seems to be filmed on the same colours... But there are not zombies haha There is something else. And a supernatural thing that was what caught my attention. If a show has something the Winchesters can kill, I'll probably watch it. I am that simple.
Though the trailer looks great, I don't know if we'll keep watching it. It doesn't look that promising. We'll see how bored we are.
